The National Center for Education Statistics charted a significant decline in literacy of adults across education levels in the period from 1992 to 2003. Alarmingly, they showed that 69% of college graduates couldn’t read any reasonably complex material with an acceptable level of understanding, and even 41% of candidates for higher degrees were not proficient in reading. Studies by Richard Arum and Josipa Roksa in their 2011 book, Academically Adrift: Limited Learning on College Campuses, tracked students during college and found “limited or no learning for a large proportion of students.” That must also reflect failure of K-12 schooling to prepare students adequately. What is behind this dismal picture?

Observers saw a subsequent 22 million dollar Bitcoin payment to a blockchain ledger associated with that group of hackers, so it appears a ransom was paid. Were they the true culprits? This is significant because Change operates the nation’s largest medical electronic data interchange (or EDI), a network that allows for the transmission of claims data back and forth between insurance companies and hospitals, pharmacies, doctors’ offices and other healthcare providers seeking payment for their services. Among the types of transactions processed daily through Change are patient eligibility verification, clinical pre-authorizations, claims submissions, and payments to providers for services rendered. Change is a vital link between providers and insurers, processing more than 15 billion healthcare transactions annually. In 2022, the U.S. Department of Justice noted that over 50% of all U.S. medical claims pass through or touch Change’s EDI clearinghouse, and we suspect that number has only increased since then.” Is this just a human malicious attack, or is it related to the plan of the interlopers to weaken us by disrupting our technology?

Milton Erickson’s mentor eventually left the University of Wisconsin for Yale University. This is from Wikipedia: “After moving to Yale, his work in hypnosis quickly encountered resistance. The medical school’s concern over the dangers of hypnosis caused him to discontinue his research.” This seems like karmic payback, in at least some capacity, for the professor doing the same thing to his student, Erickson, years earlier. Brian took two courses in Russian History and wanted to do a paper on Stalin that focused on his psychology and upbringing. The professor was enamored of the deterministic model of history and believed history makes men, men don’t make history. So if not Stalin, a virtual clone of Stalin would have been created by events, and not responsible for the events, and the individual actor was irrelevant. Nevertheless, the professor suggested books by other historians he disagreed with, which the student eagerly pursued. He got an A-minus for his efforts, and his professor was candid in admitting the paper was graded down solely because the professor personally disagreed with the academics the student cited in his paper.
