Would our dog benefit from taking gabapentin or would that drug offer little value and perhaps put him at risk from side effects? What is most important for us to know?

After five months, our dog has started coughing again, and has times when he is limping. That resembles what was going on when we first took him to the vet back in June. Has a new problem developed that could benefit from veterinary treatment? What more can we do to help things?

A practitioner asks: “My 12-year old has been ill on and off for months this year (2023) and I have quite often ended up with what he has (at the moment left-over conjunctivitis and a continuous, non-stop cough).
