A new review in the Annals of Internal Medicine (August 26, 2025) of 99 studies including over 221,000 participants from 15 countries, found that using cannabis products with high levels of THC is linked with increased risk for psychosis or schizophrenia, especially within 12 hours after use, as well as risk of addiction. Compared to recreational cannabis sources available in the 1960s through the 1980s containing 2-4% THC, levels have increased to an average of 20% currently. Vaping devices can deliver 70-90% THC. Evidence is lacking for any medicinal benefit of cannabis in treating those with diagnosed psychotic illness and weak at best for helping anxiety or depression in otherwise normal people. In fact, among recreational users, studies showed increases of 53% and 41% in anxiety and depression, respectively. The drive to legalize cannabis across the US has been accelerating. Will that win out, despite the growing incidence of harm to users? What is most important for us to know?

Claire Miller at age 14 killed her 19-year-old sister with a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds and leaving her body with the knife stuck in her neck. Claire was ruled mentally ill but liable for the death and sentenced to an adult women’s prison to serve a 12 ½- to 40-year term. It was reported that she saw demons that tormented her, went to the kitchen to get a knife, stabbed one of the demons repeatedly, and then looked down and realized it was her sister. If that was a true account, how did she confuse her sister with spirit apparitions? Can possessing spirit meddlers project a specific hallucination onto the mind of their host, in addition to making them delusional so they create their own fantasy-based hallucinations?

I am getting phone calls from an inmate at the county correctional facility. I think it might be the young schizophrenic woman I try to avoid talking with who keeps calling me. I always do healing for her, as you know, but don’t want personal interactions. I can’t take personal responsibility for her welfare given her volatile mental state. A client writes: “I can’t get rid of them/he/she/and at this point IT??? I don’t know what this thing is??? I’m praying 3 times a day. Please tell me there is help for this. I really need to speak to you. So much has happened. I just got home from the hospital. I’m pretty sure this energy is responsible for it. I have a huge hole in my leg.
