James Cameron, deep-sea explorer and director of the film, Titanic, criticized the safety of the submersible vessel, Titan, that was to have explored the wreckage of the Titanic in the depths of the North Atlantic but instead underwent an explosive decompression, killing all 5 aboard. Cameron compared the cause of the accident to the ocean liner’s historic disaster, “I’m struck by the similarity of the Titanic disaster itself, where the captain was repeatedly warned about ice ahead of his ship, and yet, he steamed up full speed into an ice field on a moonless night, and many people died as a result.” Cameron continued, “And for a very similar tragedy, where warnings went unheeded, to take place at the same exact site, with all the diving that’s going on all around the world, I think it’s just astonishing, it’s really quite surreal.” Was there anything sinister behind what happened?
