A news story states: “Tech billionaire Bill Gates’s recent blog post stating that the ‘doomsday view’ of environmental and social catastrophe from global warming is wrong, appears to mark a significant shift in the debate over climate change. A practitioner asks: “Creator says killing is wrong and to avoid killing another if possible. Why do we have to kill animals to survive? Does this come from interloper manipulation? Or is the idea of killing to survive an intentional plan? Is there a better way to survive? I’m thinking that with the plans coming up, we’ll have to become more self-sufficient. I can see that raising our own food would be a healthier source of food. However, I don’t think I would have the heart to kill an animal. Is there an easier way to have meat without killing? For example, could I ask an animal to give themselves up, then wake up the next morning to a dead animal ready to be processed for consumption? Humans do not produce Vitamin C due to a mutation in the GULO (gulonolactone oxidase) gene, which results in the inability to synthesize the protein. Normal GULO is an enzyme that catalyzes the reaction of D-glucuronolactone with oxygen to L-xylo-hex-3-gulonolactone. This then spontaneously forms Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C). However, without the GULO enzyme, no vitamin C is produced. Other mammals like guinea pigs, bats, and dry-nosed primates have gained the same defect. It seems odd that a deleterious random mutation would become dominant in the human lineage. Is that what happened, or was there a sinister manipulation of the human genome?
