We have also heard commentary from a structural engineer that the existing inspection reports do not cite any serious structural hazards, but minor cosmetic defects, and that modern steel-reinforced concrete buildings that collapse, even following severe earthquakes, do not have multiple floors that pancake, let alone from top to bottom, but fall over or become bent to the side or crumple at particular weak points, and so on, but do not crumble totally.
