Why do hurricanes travel with relative speed, crossing entire oceans, but on reaching landfall seem to stall out and remain in place, dumping dangerous quantities of rain to magnify the wind damage with tremendous flooding? Is this entirely a meteorological phenomenon, the consequence of the extraterrestrials letting go of the storm so it just stops in place to wind down, or is this intentional to compound the damage?
