Behavior such as increased confusion, hallucinations, agitation, dizziness, falls and poor motor skills are often mistaken for early stages of dementia, but all can be caused by a UTI.” Also called delirium, this rapid worsening of the mental state is more common than you’d think. It’s found in nearly 30% of older folks with UTIs.” Are these cases all from bacterial infections or are those people with UTIs showing dementia symptoms a subset with viral infections, either alone or along with bacterial infection as well?

A viewer writes: “We are being told by the doctors about my mother that the only exception to denying visitors, family in this case, is what they term ‘end of life’ which to me sends an extremely problematic message. They are also conceding that her recovery outlook would be improved if she were able to have in-person visits with her close family members. They say she lacks motivation and is often uncooperative with the nurses and therapists, speech and physical. They had to put her back into ICU with the EVD drain re installed and yesterday or the day before, they put the feeding tube back in because they are not confident she can swallow safely anymore. So my thinking is that her higher self, at the minimum, and perhaps even parts of her consciousness in ready access, knows that if she ever wants to see her family again she will need to be determined by the doctors that she is on her death bed. Is this true? Is this what is going on with her?”
