The collective unconscious is an energy field to which all contribute and all draw information, for the consciousness of each and every person, as well as all living things, is projected into this energy field as it is a kind of repository of collective experience and the ongoing energies of existence. It is sort of like a mirror that shows what is happening and reflects back to all what is taking place. So as you stand and look in a mirror, as you move your eyes about you will see a bigger display of things behind you. The collective unconscious has within all ongoing thought that is impinging on the energy field itself and can be tuned into to take the pulse, so to speak, and see how things are going and get a sense of what the collective mood is and where there may be areas of trouble or discord. It is one of the functions of the subconscious to know where it is and to look for trouble, and also to do an outreach as desired or requested by other levels of the mind to gather knowledge and information and this is one of the resources that is used. The collective unconscious is a frequent source of inspiration. You can have inspiration from above directly imparted by the divine realm to help encourage the hint of a new idea within a person, but the person themselves can go and look for inspiration from the collective unconscious as a useful well of knowledge and experience. So when there is a need, the subconscious can go out and see if the need has been filled by others and what was involved, and bring that knowledge and information back to the higher levels of the mind. This is the usual way that an invention springs into existence in more than one location, even separated by many thousands of miles, with no other prior communication. The idea will emerge in two or even more places within a short time, and what is happening is that the first inventor provides that knowledge and awareness to the collective unconscious and others seeking a solution that uses that concept may well find it and then bring that back home, so to speak, to conscious awareness, and voilà, there is another seemingly separate invention using the same idea. So you can see the value and wisdom of this. It helps people understand where they are in the grand scheme, what is happening culturally and on a widespread basis, to get a sense of things, whether there is stability or growing discord. It is both a store of knowledge and a way-station for human intention, for the desires will be transmitted along with the more mundane activity of fact-checking and information gathering. There are many yearnings that go into the pool and this can be perceived by others and become quite a source of inspiration and motivation to take up causes and to move in new directions, not just to satisfy personal needs, but in answer to a larger call from others who may be in need or suffering greatly. There are many ways that there is a cross-fertilization among all within Gaia provided through this mechanism.
