We have stated previously that using plastic always carries risks, and even when not involved with being in contact with things ingested, it is not safe to introduce plastic into the environment without a potential penalty down the line. The widespread adoption of plastic in lieu of natural substances has resulted in a cheapening, degrading of the environment, and introducing safety hazards in the bargain, starting with the manufacture creating pollutants, inevitably, in air and water and then, when returned to nature eventually, being quite slowly degraded and thus particulates from fragmentation circulate in air and water and are ingested and taken up in the body to cause trouble. So the question comes down to personal beliefs and practices, and how scrupulous people wish to be in not contributing to environmental degradation from their own actions, whether or not they incur a measurable personal liability from their level of exposure. In the meantime, raising an alarm is a useful exercise because the problem is a real one, taken in aggregate, given the worldwide burden of plastic pollutants.
