DWQA QuestionsCategory: Coronavirus COVID-19Does infection with coronavirus COVID-19 cause sterility in males? If so, what percentage?
Nicola Staff asked 4 years ago
This can be a problem as well. It is only 5% or so of males who will develop this, and the factor will relate to the overall severity with respect to the viral load that builds up within a person. It is true that the higher the virus content, the greater the tissue damage that ensues. All other things being equal, some vary in distribution of the receptors in various cell types that allow the virus to penetrate and do their harm. With reinfection, damage becomes worse and reinfected individuals will also be prone to developing new problems as thresholds are exceeded for damage in new target tissues that may not have caused symptoms previously, so it is difficult to give figures for the percent of any particular symptoms or consequences because this will vary over time in terms of the vulnerability with recurrent infection. This will cause a steady worsening of things, so it is truly a moving target, so to speak.
