DWQA QuestionsCategory: Divine GuidanceGeorge Gilder recently editorialized on an advance unfolding to enhance the AI revolution called wafer scale electronics: “Currently, most of the energy used in computing is spent not in computation but in moving data back and forth between the chips and the boards and the racks. Wafer scale eliminates most of that to-and-fro, consumes dramatically less power, and produces dramatically improved performance. It will invert the inversion. Data centers that once occupied millions of square feet will fit in one small air-conditioned office. That’s the quake that is coming.” Is this a practical solution to the inability of the current electrical grids to support expansion of AI computing demands? What is Creator’s perspective?

This, indeed, could be a revolutionary game changer to rescue the expansion of AI at a critical juncture that will increasingly be a chokepoint to prevent growth and begin a process of re-examining the premise of AI being the answer for everything. So this newer technology will keep the game going, but we still would point out that the hopes for AI are blowing a huge bubble that eventually will burst. And then, things will come back down to earth and get sorted out as to what is truly appropriate as an application for AI and what will be an adjunct, but an adjunct only, and not a total answer that replaces a totality of human effort. That is a complex issue and discussion that will have many moving parts and will take years to work through, given the nature of the deceptions and energetic emphasis that has been deployed to get the ball rolling.
