DWQA QuestionsCategory: Divine GuidanceIs skin care expert, Cecelia Wong, accurate in promoting the concept of “Dermal Volatility,” the cycling between damage and repair as a major mechanism underlying symptoms of skin aging?

As many such hypotheses go, this is one that has some scientific merit. But the question of whether that is a major factor, we would say, is more over-promotion than valid. There are always competing forces acting in all physiologic systems, no matter what you might try to do in including components that will help moderate extremes. The net effect will always be part of a wider series of chemical interactions. So you will never get away from the action-reaction phenomenon and consequences. As a guiding principle, this is too simplistic and sweeping in its conclusion to be of much use. Too little is known about all the players and the dynamics of interaction that take place. Things are always more fluid, more dynamic, and more complex than appreciated, as attempting to intervene in a meaningful way to change the ongoing dynamics of biochemical balancing involved with homeostatic regulation will be more challenging than human ingenuity can yet achieve.
