A practitioner writes: “My niece’s six-month-old baby daughter was a happy and healthy baby girl who was loved by her older siblings and by her parents. One day my mother sent me a text message saying that she stopped responding when she was called by her name. She was no longer smiling when everyone smiled at her. She was no longer interacting with anyone, and she was staring into the void with no expression in her eyes. Her parents took her to her pediatrician and she was diagnosed with autism.
