Sadly, this is the case. It is one of a long series now of aviation close calls, near misses, and downed aircraft with tragic loss of life. The purpose is to raise fear and uncertainty. They want to create doubt about the reliability of your technology and infrastructure so they are busy causing things to break. Such events are always larger than life because they are quite shocking and do have implications for everyone who might want to avail themselves of air travel, for example, but even those who do not fly will be on the ground beneath those in the air, so a crash can hit most anywhere and take out innocent bystanders, creating more to worry about, especially when there is a series of such events.
