This is part of a cover story always maintained to misdirect history and hide the reality of an alien presence. This allows the extraterrestrials to carry out many manipulations, to appear as a powerful force and take over running things, and build a dynasty of some kind they will pursue and refine as a kind of idle pursuit, much like a hobby. It gives them a way to exert power and superiority over others and to do so with impunity. It is a sop to their ego but has been hugely destructive to human beings. When they tire of their games, they may withdraw but will never leave something good in their wake, but more of a vacuum to be filled by other forms of corruption, or for humans to start over with difficult lives for other reasons than being part of a despotic extraterrestrial dynasty.
