As you saw intuitively, this is a karmic consequence of having gone through this grievous loss. It is literally a broken heart she is feeling and that, of course, is a figure of speech not a literal reality that is a cause for worry here. She is feeling the ruptured love bond because that is always a major dilemma when it happens, because the love bonds are given the highest priority and when that is disturbed or endangered or deliberately broken it will be inevitably perceived as a major loss and be quite painful. So this needs karmic repair to speed healing.
