We understand why this is a somewhat complex and confusing picture. The best way to look at this is that given there are differing levels of the mind, human intention can create trouble in a variety of ways in decisions that are made, thoughts launched, and energy projected into the world which has an impact on others and karmic consequences. So dark thoughts and emotions will automatically launch a kind of psychic attack energy at the object of displeasure. When that is intended to be harmful in a deliberate way and to persist indefinitely, and perhaps even being fatal as in wishing someone dead, not to mention the formal curses people can be trained to mount effectively, as is common particularly in certain cultures, there is a legacy self-created. And that is an example of what is meant by soul contracts. These can include vows of marriage and undying love, in addition to harmful motives, but they can be just as harmful in getting in the way of a person's future plans and changes in direction, especially in new incarnations.
There are two levels of assistance to deal with such things. The first is wanting to have a change for the better through rescinding any harmful acts one has done in the past. And the second, is getting divine help to arrange the reconfiguration of energies affecting multiple events on multiple other timelines in the past history. So the act of declaring a cancellation of soul contracts is, at best, a weak gesture. For one thing, the person has little or no idea of the extent of such obligations, not knowing the details about all their past lives and the many, many, interactions and complex interplay they have been a party to in many times and places. After all, a human being is not omnipotent in being able to make sweeping changes across the board in any respect, nor are they omniscient in knowing the extent of their prior obligations. So this kind of perspective is an example of magical thinking promulgated by the New Age perspective that sees people as light beings, still, who have control of their energy and their destiny through the power of their thought.
It is true everything stems from consciousness, but consciousness needs to be understood and focused through intention to define what is desired to happen, and directed in a way it can do useful work. Making a vague, broad, declaration will not do this. The only value it has is in creating an inner resolve to be in a better state of allowing for a change and resolution of such entanglements. That can be helpful when people are blocked by a strong inner belief connected to soul contracts, as from an old grudge match. So it will help people let go of old traps they have set for themselves, to some extent. The problem is, again, such a declaration may or may not be acted on by all levels of the mind, especially the deep subconscious, nor will it go to work within the akashic records to heal all of the energetic signatures of discord from past difficulties which underlie the karmic soul contracts governing the monitoring and oversight of personal karmic history, and thus, the trajectory of soul growth and expression. They request, in elegant and specific ways, a divine intervention for repair of soul contracts, and attend to the many entanglements that underpin the bad things that have happened and the resulting karmic obligations, through asking for removal of negative cordings to many times, places, and individuals which will maintain a kind of stranglehold on the person in perpetuity until effective healing has been achieved.
