Here again is an appreciation by a seeker for allowing sufficient freedom to be unconventional, especially at the initial stage of sharing ideas and concepts. The idea of freedom of speech to explore opportunities, even on a theoretical basis, needs to be protected and allowed. That is often the only way to break free of hidebound thinking and conventional constraints on personal choice which are often reinforced by strong public perceptions and intolerance. This is an important part of the scientific method—the conduct of experiments typically done on a small scale, on an initial exploratory basis, at minimal cost given realistic chance of failure. History is replete with accounts of how magnificent human feats of achievement grew out of an initial and quite tentative free-roaming exchange of ideas. It is all too easy to squelch an idea prematurely, and the lack of an arena for at least exploring the theoretical, by talking about it and conducting what is basically thought experiments, is a prescription for maintaining a status quo modeling mediocrity.
