There were massive wildfires in Indonesia in 2015 killing almost 100,000 people and causing billions of dollars in damage, and a wildfire in a region of Greenland in 2017. These two fires were attributed by scientists to have arisen because they involved peatlands becoming dried out and a fire hazard.
