The life of Judas, taking a dark turn, was a consequence of inner corruption engineered to happen by the interlopers. So it was not an inherent character flaw or weakness in his makeup that led to his compromise but, perversely, his innocence leaving him open to outside manipulation, and that was his undoing, and that is why he took his life, because he would not have done the act of betrayal if he had not been manipulated to weaken him. So it was truly out of character and that was why it was so intolerable that he could not continue on, in the face of his guilt. Those with true criminal inclinations are often refractory to pangs of conscience, so that was why it was a dilemma for him to be a party to all that happened in the way it worked out.
He has reincarnated since then to continue his life journey and to rework his karmic obligations through re-entering the fray. There were significant added levels of karmic burden as a consequence of his suicide because to simply flee the scene is not a healing solution for a dilemma. While that can be forgiven for those who are victims of things totally outside their control, there is an expectation that people will attend to the needs of their soul and self-govern effectively. That is a basic level of achievement that needs to be honored and arranged through prudent life choices. There is a mitigating factor in him having been manipulated, but that is a kind of victimization for which he is technically accountable from being in harm's way and being vulnerable. So there are always a mix of personal obligations and mitigating factors that might ease the karmic burdens to some degree, but rarely totally. That is because people need to learn from all they experience, and the best teacher is experiencing adversity because, if only looking back on it, there will be a teaching benefit and people will gain eventually from all of the trials and tribulations they experience no matter how unpleasant. So his act of betrayal was really not one of selfish interest but a result of inner weakness from being preyed on and manipulated, and that is something not in the record but an important dimension about his involvement in Christ's crucifixion.
