DWQA QuestionsCategory: PrayerWe know the saying “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” How wise is it, to pray for daily protection as opposed to another focus? Many hunger for evidence of miracles and divine presence in their lives, and it seems that receiving divine protection from danger provides some of the most profound and satisfying evidence of divine presence in this world of profound disconnection. Does the divine sometimes allow a danger to become dangerously close in order to provide the opportunity to experience a miracle? We know many have been snapped out of complacency and even atheism when rescued from danger, inexplicably. How often does the divine use this opportunity as a teaching tool?

This is a perceptive question because we, indeed, are in control of where and when and in what way we intervene to provide divine grace when someone is at risk. We may choose to stand aside, particularly if the individual in harm’s way has chosen to ignore us and exclude us from their life. We cannot go where we are not wanted—that would be a violation of the individual’s sovereignty. Many people choose to be on their own and will suffer as a consequence, but we can do nothing about this unless someone on the human side requests our assistance on their behalf. So this is a cautionary tale in personal responsibility and the importance of personal initiative to learn what one needs to know about the reality of the divine, to take it seriously, and implement our teachings and recommendations if you want to have the best possible life you can have. One who prays for protection will be far more likely to live a long and healthy life than one who does not. How you go about it will matter as well, to what extend the prayers will have enough power of intention to forestall an adverse consequence the person is about to encounter, perhaps through no real fault of their own but being in the wrong place at the wrong time, perhaps. With karma being an influence, both positive and negative, there are times when a moment of reckoning will happen and take someone back to the light—to everyone’s shock and surprise. If this were examined carefully and all of the history traced back through time, one would inevitably see a story where karma is building in some fashion to put them in harm’s way, and a point was reached when there was simply no way to intervene because the forces of darkness, or the forces of karma demanding restitution in some way, have the upper hand energetically, and so is allowed to proceed even though enough prayer work had been done to at least allow a divine intervention to take place. Here again, is the issue of having divine wisdom and making a particular judgment call about the relative merits among an array of choices that could be used to intervene in some way to change the course of events. This might be total prevention, or it might be an amelioration to lessen the consequence to some degree but not block it entirely. So there are many times we adjust the energies of things underway in both directions, allowing them to worsen for effect or to allow a karmic lesson to be learned more effectively, or to lessen the injury and resulting suffering because it is for the person’s greater good to not be too impaired as a consequence. There may be important things about to happen that would be thrown off course and they might miss a key opportunity with regard to divine timing for a blessing to be achieved and enacted. That might represent a greater good that overshadows a minor misalignment causing a mishap that could be severe enough to destroy ongoing plans in some way. So there are countless examples we could give of many kinds of instances where fine-tuning and careful discernment are brought to bear to adjust what is happening and see to it that everything is in balance with regard to all the needs of those involved. Keep in mind, one life touches many others, so a karmic consequence for one person might injure others near and dear to them—that might be unavoidable and in some cases might even be part of the karmic repayment, that one becomes the cause of harm to loved ones, perhaps as a pattern in life after life, and must live with the guilt and shame it brings and represents a soul dilemma in the bargain. Nothing is wasted; you can be sure that anything that happens, pleasant or unpleasant, will be providing a learning opportunity often for multiple individuals, and the dispensing of life lessons will contribute to the soul journey and this is, in the end, a blessing even if painful along the way many times. It just argues for doing the best one can and having the best focus. It is always a good idea to be devoted to a partnership with Creator—you will have no better friend or ally, nor one more powerful, sympathetic to your needs.
