There are many reasons for slothful conduct and lifestyles. Chief among these is having experienced so much negativity as to become disempowered, in having a life of repeated failure and with a loss of confidence in one's capabilities, and often feeling depleted and in a state of hopelessness, there will be little energy that can be summoned for a new initiative, to take on the world in some respect, to advance the self or causes helping others—it simply cannot be done well in a state of depletion. It is quite important as well that this be a broad category to include, "neglect of spiritual growth," because moving away from the divine will eventually end in dissolution and destruction of the soul as a worst-case scenario. That is because everything about life is intended to be in service to divine love and, because that originates from Creator and is passed to you from your soul connection, if you move away from the Almighty, that connection will dim and the longer that goes on, and the further away you become, the fainter the energy will be that reaches you to keep you going and to keep you in a healthy vibration. When it becomes too great a state of depletion, many bad things can happen as coping strategies will be turned to that are faulty in nature, because there will be an absence of wisdom as well in that state of neglectful depletion, so you will have less wherewithal to make good choices and act on them. That becomes a downward spiral eventually, and can take you under. This is seemingly a self-punishment but will certainly harm others as well who may depend on you, or are your loved ones and expect more and will be disappointed and harmed as well if you let them down and cannot be there for them, because you lack the energetic wherewithal to be of help and support when needed, and thus cannot be relied on.
