Greed is certainly a serious liability, but all too likely to happen at times given the demands of life in the physical, the uncertainties, the risks, the many sources of challenge from negativity of all kinds, including being preyed on actively and manipulated with ways found to punish and undermine you. This creates many disappointments, failures, and circumstances where you will wind up short compared to your dreams and aspirations and desires. Life circumstances are highly varied, so no two people are alike, and some seem well-endowed with built-in benefits and advantages, whether physical health, attractiveness, intelligence, sparkling personality, and so on, and others will have significant handicaps, whether physical restriction or simply have meager attributes on display in contrast to others, and have to settle for a low ranking in the opinion of others. This seems highly unfair but it does indeed have a purpose, which is to spur you on and teach you how to deal with adversity, being disadvantaged, starting from behind, having seemingly less to work with but yet the same large appetite as others. Here again is a trap for the ego. In wanting to serve the self, the ego will recognize what others have and want it for the self. This can become a kind of obsession and gain larger-than-life significance in how they are perceived. When looked at dispassionately, despite the motivation behind the attraction something represents, it will always be seen, in looking at the big picture, to be something far less than the be-all and end-all of existence. While there are many things that might seem lofty and quite special, and quite rewarding to even set the person up above others in the attainment, these will be superficial pursuits and achievements in the end because everything physical has little importance compared to divine attributes that start from love, and its expression in an increasingly myriad variety of forms. That is the true purpose of existence, to learn about and master love and its giving and receiving, in the achievement of ever greater expansion of possibilities, in a balanced way, to raise up everything and not the self alone. The attainment of enlightenment, through being truly in divine alignment, with a deep understanding and ability to follow divine principles and contribute to the welfare of all while including the self effectively, will lead to tremendous rewards of all kinds that go far beyond personal possessions and the trappings of physical existence. And here again, feelings and actions based on greed are a kind of cheapening of the self in settling for less while wanting more and, to the extent of the severity of misalignment, is a departure from divinity.
