You can say the entirety of Christ's life was preparation for what followed with the literal trainwreck, as you put it, of his ghastly torment and painful crucifixion. In a world of difficulty and much chaos and confusion, through the divide and conquer strategies of the interlopers disrupting things and creating obstacles and painful unexpected consequences over and over again at all levels, all through history, and no less today, there is a need for a breakthrough and a breakout to catalyze an awakening. People need to break free of the constraints of mind control manipulation. When not in torment, people are manipulated to make them complacent, a kind of numbing and disconnect so as to not feel deeply about the plight of others, and more and more accepted as to be expected and not their personal responsibility to address. So something quite extraordinary and powerful was needed to be an example for all time of extraordinary sacrifice followed by a miraculous transformation and attainment of the loftiest of goals by one who embraces the divine with their whole heart. This Jesus Christ did quite effectively. One could argue this was overkill in the sense of seeming to be a superhuman feat almost impossible to emulate, but you can't have it both ways, a story that will live for all time without having a dark side that mirrors the human dilemma and the challenges of overcoming evil, even monstrous evil, as a means to shake people out of their complacency, get their attention, and motivate them to seek answers through taking a new path and striving to learn and grow their way to enlightenment through healing.
