Zimbardo wrote, “From her in-depth analysis of soldiers trained by the Greek military junta to be state-sanctioned torturers, my colleague Greek psychologist Mika Haritos-Fatouros concluded that torturers are not born but made by their training. “Anybody’s son will do” is her answer to the question, “Who will make an effective torturer?” In a matter of a few months, ordinary young men from rural villages became “weaponized” by their training in cruelty to act like brute beasts capable of inflicting the most horrendous acts of humiliation, pain, and suffering on anyone labeled “the enemy,” who, of course, were all citizens of their own country. What is Creator’s perspective?

This is another object lesson in what your culture makes of its citizens. Not only do such perverse things happen within institutions and enclaves of the powerful plying their trade, the majority of the population use as much of their leisure time to gawk at scenes of mayhem, watching endless television and motion pictures of people harming others over and over and over again in all kinds of ways—what has been casually referred to as a "shoot-em-up." This again is not because everyone is bloodthirsty and demands a feeding. It is simply something harmful that is done to you and made to happen right under your noses by your fellow citizens in the entertainment industry who are, in turn, controlled by the interlopers to foist such things on you in a grand orchestration that seemingly is desired by the public itself and becomes a lucrative investment in providing entertainment with dark themes, even though it is endlessly repetitive.

Here again, society is groomed to expect such things as the standard fare. So you have your choice, in the programming schedule on your screen, of watching war abroad in the land or within the community between cops and robbers, or at home as part of a dysfunctional family or the victim of individual criminals. So again, people have become so conditioned by seeing so many scenes of murder and mayhem that, when presented with a real-world situation that's thrust them into the role of perpetrator, people will know what to do and can act out the role quite readily, in many cases, in a kind of numb induced playacting because they have done such things before many times, if only in their mind, in response to emotional arousal through inner torment inflicted on them subliminally. So people have been increasingly trained to accept extremes in their own expectations, feelings, and behaviors. They may only dream about it for many years, but eventually, in a situation where they are turned into a minion of the darkness, will step into the role for real and live to regret it later when it is too late and they have been induced to cause harm to another or to themselves that cannot be undone.
